Hasenbach Challenge

It's all about stars today... Because of the Christmas Tree QAL that starts officially and also because of the Hasenbach Challenge. Let's start with the Christmas Tree QAL. I'm so happy to host this together with Aylin! And I'm sure you already got all the information here. We will sew a wonderful Christmas Quilt with different stars forming a Christmas Tree. Two stars per week and we will be finished just in time for the Advent! But you don't have to stress - take your time and sew at your own speed! Show us your pictures in our flickr group or on Instagram (#christmastreeqal) You can still join us! And let me tell you - it's definitely worth it! Have a look at all the wonderful prices we can offer you:

Zwei wundervolle Boxen mit Aurifil Garnen - zur Verfügung gestellt von Alex Veronelli von Aurifil:

und ein Ausmalbuch von Tula Pink:

and a coloring book from Tula Pink - also sponsored by the FatQuarterShop:

But that's not all! There'll be a halftime linky party for those who made at least 5 blocks and we have a wonderful FQ bundle with the Christmas at Brambleberry fabrics from Violet Craft!

Also, los geht's! Das Pattern habt Ihr gekauft? Die Stoffe ausgesucht? Ich schon :-)

So let's get started! You bought the pattern? You picked the fabrics? I did :-)

I decided on a white background fabric with white stars on it. It was difficult to take a good picture of it:

Combined with six different red fabrics - three prints and three solids - for the stars:

Now I'm ready to start! Yesterday late in the evening I cut the fabrics for the first two stars and next week you can have a look at how they turned out :-)

Then - the Hasenbach Challenge, hosted by Katrin. Last month I wasn't able to participate, but in September I sewed another moon and stars block:

I enlarged it a little bit - it's now about 8" - and I want to use it for a certain project. Well, we'll see... You can have a look at the blocks of the others here.

Talking of all these stars I'd like to show you a pic of the bloodmoon from Sept. 28th. We were really lucky because there were no clouds that night - it was a starry night. My alarm clock was set for 4.20 in the morning because I didn't want to miss this lunar eclipse. I even woke up my kids and took them outside to see the red moon:

Nobody was mad about me, they loved it! But they were a bit tired the next day... Well, it was worth it! :-)

The English version will follow as soon as possible :-)

Today is the last day of the month and therefor it's time to show the results of the Hasenbach Challenge, which is organized by Katrin. The participants are sewing blocks with the PP-patterns from Claudia Hasenbach.

I wanted to make a little something for my secret partner in the Pillow Swap Four Seasons. It's the autumn round right now and I wanted to use one of the leaf-patterns. But what to make out of it? Not again a journal cover... :-) My daughter finally came up with THE idea: a needlebook. But the finished size of the pattern was 6x6 Inches - too large for a needlebook. So I printed it at only 50% and started sewing. Immediately I started wondering, whether this could work with such tiny pieces...

But it worked out well:

Today I finished the needlebook. At first I wanted to make a clasp with a button and a little piece of rubber band. But because of the motive on the front this didn't work. I'm sure it'll work without...

When folded, the needlebook is 3x3 Inches small. So the extra is finished - but the pillow isn't yet :-)

Kissen, Kissen

I was really busy sewing in May but unfortunately I couldn't show it all. But as all the secrets are revealed now, I can show you, what I made :-)
I made a pillow cover for the summer round of our Pillow Swap Four Seasons. My secret partner was Maxine from the US and this was her inspirational mosaic:

I took the idea from a picture I found on flickr and as there was a link to an instruction, I started right away:

It was really fun! And not too difficult to make! In the end I was a bit surprised, that it filled the whole pillow. Well, I should have paid attention in advance. But nevertheless I like it as it is :-)

I quilted some peebles, I liked it more than my usual echo-quilting...

As this was for a swap I wanted to send some goodies with it. I sewed a little anchor pincushion with a PP-pattern from Claudia Hasenbach. I also made the lovely seahorse according to one of her patterns although I didn't really know what to make with it. But then I had an idea and decided to make a journal cover. I made some flying geese pieces for the back and - finished :-)

But I totally fell in love with this cover and didn't give it away easily. So I decided, to make one for myself. This seahorse is therefore also my May-entry for the Hasenbach Challenge, hosted by Katrin. I hope, I can really manage to finish my journal cover as soon as possible :-)

My package finally arrived at Maxine's home

and she likes it - which really makes me happy! I'm looking forward to the next round of our Pillow Swap. The autumn edition! I'm curious who will be my secret partner. But first of all I'm now waiting for my pillow of this round... :-)

Well, and then there was this other pillow "thing" in May.... Something like an "X-Factor" round in Aylin's German speaking "Swap°pen auf Deutsch" group. There were only a few participants and we were lucky that the whole thing wasn't cancelled! I have to admit - I hestiated too. There were so many other things on my mind at that time and the two week Midsummer vacations ahead... Nobody is really waiting for your pillow - if you don't participate it doesn't really hurt anybody.... Is that why only few quilters took part? Or is it the swap-doubt, that especially many Germans have? That they work hard and won't get something adequate in return? I don't know... But I'm glad that I took part! Now I know to whom to send my pillow - although I don't know yet which one I'm getting... :-) I have to sew my label to the pillow and will send it away on Friday. And I hope, it will be loved :-)

Was habe ich nun eigentlich genäht?

What did I make? I was again inspired by some pictures on flickr, took a piece of paper, a ruler and a pair of dividers, drew my pattern, picked fabrics, sewed, quilted (you can see from the poor quality of the pictures, that the sewing took place mostly in the late evening...)

Und das ist dabei herausgekommen:

and came up with this:

All the other pillows shown in this swap group had a wonderful back and I tried to find something which was easily to be done... As I had some pieces which I sewed at the beginning but then wanted to improve, I used them for the back:

I desperately tried to use fabrics nobody would immediately recognize as mine... But one or two quilters immediately knew, that this must have been my pillow... :-)
I don't know yet which pillow will arrive here at my home, but I'm sure, it'll enrich my home :-)

Hasenbach Challenge meets Pillow Swap Four Seasons

Today is the last day of April and therefore showtime for blocks sewn within the "Hasenbach Challenge". Organized and hosted by Katrin we are sewing blocks from the PP-patterns of Claudia Hasenbach. I don't have any specific project in mind, I'm just sewing blocks and use them for small items or gifts.

At the moment I'm sewing the pillow case for my secret partner in the Summer-Round of the Pillow Swap Four Seasons. I'm almost done :-) That's why I started thinking about a little extra I might send with my package... As it is the summer round I thought about a maritime motive and made this little pincushion:

Das war mal wieder eine abendliche Nähaktion :-)

It was a late night sewing :-)

I already sewed a seahorse using an older pattern from Claudia Hasenbach. I had no idea what to use it for, but I thought it's perfect for the summer round:

Two days ago I finally had an idea and started to finish it - with some flying geese in the same colors.

I won't tell you now, what it is - it's only a sneak peek. But I can tell you, that it's hard for me to give it away... I definitely should make one like that for myself - but I know I won't...

"April, April!"

Yesterday I thought of an April Fool's trick when we were in the train from Paris to Munich and they made an announcement, that the train will stop at Stuttgart due to heavy weather and storm damages on the roof of the main station building in Munich... But it wasn't yet April... Well - we had to stay for the night in a hotel in Stuttgart and drove back home with a rental car this morning (there were no more rental cars available yesterday in the evening...). Strange, that something like that happens the one time I'm travelling by train :-)

So I had no chance to post my pictures of the Hasenbach-Challenge yesterday. I sewed three blocks out of the "Fresh Fruit" series. I'm planning to make mug rugs out of them. The strawberry is 3 x 3 Inches:

Die Kirschen sind 4 x 4 Inches

The cherries are 4 x 4 Inches

I thought a light grey background would be perfect but now I'm not really happy with it. We'll see if there's a chance to improve it with a nice border or so.

Der Pfirsich ist 6 x 6 Inches:

The peach is 6 x 6 Inches:

More pictures of blocks sewn with the PP-patterns of Claudia Hasenbach can be found on Katrin's blog!

I want to show you the little pouches I made for the girls as a little surprise gift for our trip to Paris:

I found the Paris- and hearts fabric sometime around Valentine's Day here and I had to buy it. The manicure pouches seemed to be perfect, the pattern is free and can be found here.

Natürlich wurden die Teile noch bestückt

Of course I filled it with nail polish, a nailfile and polish remover

and the girls immediately used it while we were in Paris...

Doesn't the color of the nail polish fit perfectly? I don't understand why people in the queue to the Eiffeltower looked at us in such a strange way :-))

Hasenbach-Challenge

As it's the last day of the month it's showtime for the blocks sewn for the "Hasenbach Challenge". With this Challenge Katrin motivates us to sew PP-blocks from the patterns of Claudia Hasenbach.

I made a springy mug rug with one of this years BOM blocks of the "Flower Power" series. The original block is 8x8 Inches, which in my opinion was a little bit too large for a mug rug. So I printed it at only 80% and now it's about 6,5x6,5 Inches:

Yesterday I sewed the block and quilted it, today in the morning I finished the binding and gave it away as a birthday present to a friend of mine. Unfortunately she wasn't at home and I had to leave it in her letter box. But as I thought of using my label this time, she'll know from whom it is when she unwrappes it :-)

My "real" Hasenbach-Challenge project is to finish my lighthouse quilt and so I made some more of the filling blocks, they are 3x3 Inches - but not so spectacular...

I just came back from a short shopping trip in Munich where I bought batting and fabric for the back of my Elephant Parade Baby Quilt. I hope to get it finished soon :-)
